Position Objective: Under the direct supervision of the Sergeant and general supervision of the Sheriff, is responsible for performing general law enforcement functions related to law and order and to serve the legal process of the courts.

Essential Functions: Enforcement of laws. Prevention and suppression of crime. Protection of the public in emergency situations.

Experience and/or Education: Within 12 months of hire must be able to complete the South Dakota Law Enforcement Academy and receive a SD Law Enforcement Certification or meet the LE Standards Commission rules with respect to reciprocity.

Desired skills include: knowledge of civil and criminal codes of federal, state and county governments; use of firearms, crime control and equipment for emergency situations.
