General Statement of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Supervisor and the general supervision of the Sheriff, is responsible for answering all calls for emergency services and maintains radio contact with the sheriff’s Office, police department, fire departments, ambulance services, and all other public entities relating to emergency services.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Answer all calls received by emergency 911 as well as the administrative lines, and coordinate emergency services, determine priority and disseminate the appropriate service to the emergency/call for service.

  2. Maintain communication and contact with emergency services units in the field acting as a lifeline by providing information, safety and support through monitoring them in the line of duty.

  3. Advise callers of actions they can take until the emergency assistance arrives and walk them through procedure step-by-step.

  4. Report all calls and maintain records with all calls for service in an accurate and timely complete manner.

  5. Provide emergency first responder instructions to the general public, as instructed by the responders or individuals training.

  6. Continually monitor units in the field for safety and well being.

  7. Assist in the training of new employees.

  8. Operate modern office equipment in conjunction with emergency communications to include, but not excluding any equipment not listed, telephone, teletype, computers, radio, photo copier, fax, etc.

  9. Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

  10. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.

  11. Perform other such duties and functions as deemed necessary.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Commission Assistant/Human Resources Director, the Financial Technician is responsible for assisting with the financial accounting of Meade County, including Accounts Payable and Payroll, as well as performing administrative duties for the Commission Office.

Essential Functions

  • Displaying personal initiative and strives to serve in the best interest of County citizens

  • Processing claims and payments via check and ACH

  • Entering data and maintaining financial records

  • Tracking/auditing distribution of payables to their respective County budgets and line items

  • Providing financial documents/reports to stakeholders

  • Maintaining vendor list, including tracking/reporting 1099, W-9, and other relevant information

  • Assisting in payroll process and personnel management

  • Preparing and distributing reports, filing records

  • Developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with the general public, vendors, and other employees

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration with an emphasis on organizational, financial management, and budgetary control

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Extensive use and knowledge of computer software and technology

  • Proficient mathematical skills

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

HIGHWAY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 

Service area: Elm Springs SD 

General Statement of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Highway Superintendent and general supervision of the Assistant Highway Superintendent, is responsible for skilled construction, maintenance and repair work on County roads, related facilities and equipment.  Operate any type of equipment over 26,000 lbs.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and perform minor repairs to a variety of vehicles including but not limited to - trucks, dozers, pay-loaders, scrapers, motor graders, tractors, and trailers all used in the repair of County roads and bridges.

  • Participate with work crews in all aspects of highway maintenance to include asphalt repair, patching, sealing, overlay, crack filling, roller and oiler.

  • Coordinate operation and maintain section gravel roads to include blading and pulling shoulders, and maintaining ditches and roadways by cutting edges and mowing.

  • Repair County roads and bridges to include loading and unloading materials, fencing, crack filling and picking up litter as needed.

  • Remove snow during inclement weather.

  • Assist in loading and hauling of dirt, gravel, snow and other materials.

  • Mow grass in County roadway ditches as needed.

  • Clean and/or assist in draining ditches.

  • Maintain records of work performed.

  • Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.

  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment when required.

  • Attend meetings and seminars as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. certification.

  3. Currently possess or ability to obtain a valid South Dakota Class A Commercial Drivers License with air brake and tanker endorsements.
